It is unfortunate that not everyone has the opportunity to be part of a public power system, where they have a say in the direction, have a financial interest in the company, are able to keep more of their hard earned money, and where providing such a critical product is done so with the customer in mind, as affordably and responsibly as is practical.
As a member-owned electric cooperative, voting is in our DNA. It’s how we maintain an electric utility that’s responsive to the members we serve. Voting also plays a crucial part in our democracy as federal, state and local elections approach, and offer us with an opportunity to exercise our civic responsibility – to select the best representatives for our communities.
When a person retires, we celebrate all they’ve accomplished over their career. This week we’re retiring a power plant, and I’d like to mark the event with the same spirit of celebration. Nucla Station completed its final run last week and came offline at 9:19 a.m. on 9/9/19. Over the few days Nucla Station was physically disconnected from the grid and today, 9/19/19, Nucla Station is officially retired from service.

June marks the first convening of our Contract Committee since the members approved an amendment to our bylaws at our April 2019 Annual Meeting. The bylaw amendment allows the board to consider alternative types of membership and contracts with the association.
In mid-March, the bomb cyclone spring storm impacted our transmission system and our members’ distribution systems across four states. Our team was prepared and engaged before, during and after the storm to maintain the reliability of our electric service.
